Yahoo, having bought Musicmatch for quite some time now, has "developed" the Yahoo Music Jukebox, deriving it from the old Musicmatch Jukebox that so many people have come to know and love. I've been a Musicmatch user since the late 90s, and have switched between MMJ and Windows Media Player (WMP) only. I especially liked MMJ 10, since they began to support the .wma format. With this, I was given the capability to merge my mp3 and wma music libraries. MMJ wasn't like WMP, that the track tags remained, even if you moved it to another destination. With WMP, the some tags would be evident only when using WMP. Each time you use another media application was an entirely different experience.
Now, Yahoo decided to set MMJ's technology about a decade back. Here are a few items you will surely miss:
- No Album art import. The only way that your files would have album art was if the jokebox was able to find it over the net. Otherwise, you're stuck with no album art. So much for my local mp3 collections...
- No line-in recording. What???!!! What about my casettes? I have to use about 2 or 3 more separate applications to do this...
- Some tags arranged through previous versions of MMJ or other applications don't work in this version. I found that some of my files' genre tags were gone.
- Bad news for those who paid for the Plus version. Back then, a few bucks for a lifetime upgrade didn't sound bad. Well this one looks more of a downgrade, so.....
There are a couple of blogs going around lambasting Yahoo's worst business decision yet. I've removed it from my laptop after 15 minutes, and rolled back to MMJ 10. It's a good thing there are a few sites sponsoring the old setup file.
Yahoo Sucks!!!!
